On Sat 21st November 2009 - 45 young riders attended Dalby Forest to be coached in Mountain Bike Techniques. The day was arranged by the Regional Olympic Development Coach Simon Watts plus other British Cycling coaches and volunteer coaches were there to assist on the day.
Around 30 of the riders were from the National Talent Team and the talent team programme is made up of riderstypically aged 13 to 17 years old and they have the ambition of making onto an Olympic poduim. The rest of the riders were invited onto the Regional School of Racing based on their race results and our very own Michael T(14yrs) had received an invite and attended the day.
The day started from Dixons Hollow at 11.ooam with a rider briefing and the groups being split into three groups. The morning session involved looking at race lines, descents and a small race. Lunch was taken at Low Dalby and then the afternoon session moved onto a different circuit in the forest looking at some race lines and race tactics.
Michael Thompson recently won the Lightwater Laike Race and came 5th and 6th in two races in the British XC National Points Series.
Most of the club MTBers will know him as he is always the rider who comes flying past as you struggle up the hills.
It is great to see how well mike rides. He is very mature for his age, i hope he stays keen!
