Well the youth section did! Club Riders from the Youth Section were invited to ride in a ‘Go Ride’ exhibition relay race at the World Cup on Sunday 25th April. Our team was Matt and Emma Graves, Callum Norris and Jamie Hall. The race involved 10 teams from all over the area from Bradford and Holme Valley Wheelers.
Our riders assembled for a pre ride briefing and relay practice at the British Cycling Tent within the Village. The riders looked great in club gear and were well supported by their parents and Club Coaches Toby Boyes and Mark Grange. At one point Matt managed to fall over the crash barriers whilst in the assembly area this did not pass unnoticed by the riders and parents!
The race took place along the start of the World Cup course and went into the Dixon Hollows and back into the event arena. The team decided on the order of the riders with Jamie taking first position, and then Callum, Emma and Matt taking last spot. The first lap Jamie was well down the field and narrowly avoided a crash with a wall under the bridge in Dixons Hollow. Callum emerged on the second lap at the back of the field but undertook a rider on a sharp corner and made contact with the other rider but those group riding skills session paid off and he accelerated up the track in front of the other rider. Emma on the third lap rode strong and her running background showed. Richardsons were starting to move up the field. Emma skidded off the bike before getting back into the arena but did not hesitate getting back on the bike. The last lap and Matt rode strongly and took several places for the team to finish 7th.
The riders enjoyed the atmosphere of a large crowd watching them and the experience of racing. All riders received free T shirts.
