Filey School Report

Several months ago club coaches Mark Grange and Toby Boyes spent a day at Filey school delivering cycle sessions to 100 pupils.  Well the day was so successful that the pupils have requested another day of cycle skills and racing.   So we were back on Monday 28th June this time with another addition to the coaching team - recently CTC trained leader Dave Simpson who was their to assist in our delivery of MTB skills and hold more races. 

 The sun and clear skies were certainly a change in weather from our last visit in March which was cold and dull.  Not only was the weather a change but also a complete change to the session this time around.  The pupils were shown how to fit helmets correctly and a short familiarisation of the gears and brakes.  The hour lesson  involved sessions on cornering, gear selection and group riding with some MTB starts.   These starts involved  8 -10 riders riding downhill into a single taped lane.  A few spills and crashes were seen at this point but all enjoyed the challenge of getting in the lane first.

A total of 55 young riders received cycle coaching from our coaches and plans are already been made to run an interschools competition on 22nd July.
