Richardsons CC is a club for mountain bikers and road cyclists in the Scarborough area. We’re the biggest and fastest growing bike club on the Yorkshire coast. There’s 86 of us so far – men, women, middle-aged, young, race fit, and beer-fuelled. We’ve got one main thing in common: we like to ride bikes. Some of us mostly ride on singletrack, some of us mostly ride on tarmac. Plenty of us do both. You’re welcome to join us, doing the cycling you already like or trying out cycling you might like. We’re lucky to have some of the best riding in Britain on our doorstep. And we want to share it.

People to ride with. Riding on your own like Billy no-mates is okay if you’re fitness training but otherwise it’s boring. There are 86 members in Richardsons CC, so whether you want to arrange a last minute ride when you’ve got the day off work or you want to do a regular or occasional weekly ride, you’ll rarely ride alone.

Weekly rides, off-road and on. There are mountain bike rides every Tuesday and Thursday evenings (even in winter), and road rides on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, with a harder road ride on Saturday mornings.

The chance to race. You don’t have to, of course, but if you want to try competitive cycling, Richardsons CC is affiliated to Cycling Time Trials and British Cycling. That means you can take part in practically any time trial and some entry-level road and mountain bike races. If you plan to take part often in mountain bike or road races, you can get a racing licence and discounted Silver or Gold membership of British Cycling.

Riding weekends away. We organise trips to Scotland and Wales to go mountain biking, and road cycling trips in places like the Yorkshire Dales. We also been track cycling on Manchester’s velodrome.

Coaching advice. Richardsons CC has a qualified cycling coach. Want to work out a training plan to get fitter? He can help.

Technical advice. If you’re out on a ride or on the website, if you’ve got a question about what to buy or how to fix something, chances are another Richardsons CC member will have an answer – or at least an opinion.

£10million third party cycling insurance for £12. As Richardsons CC is affiliated to CTC, you can join CTC as an affiliate member for £12 per year to get insurance for claims made against you while riding your bike.

Youth Academy. We have a weekly Go-Ride skills session for younger teenagers each Sunday afternoon.

Beginners’ mountain bike rides. We run skills sessions for beginners at Dalby Forest every few months – more often as we get more members with ride leader qualifications in the club. What’s more, we have access to a fleet of hardtails at Dalby Forest for newcomers!

Beginners’ social rides. We run shorter, easy rides for newcomers – up the old railway line, for example.

A club that listens to you. It’s your club. If you’ve got an idea and you’re happy to chip in, there’s a good chance it’ll happen. We’re not a secret clique, just a bunch of people in Scarborough (and nearby) who like to ride bikes.
