It's some way away yet, but the website for the Lightwater Laike race is already live at www.lightwaterlaike.co.uk.

I'll be going, on the basis that I'll be bike fit by then, if not race fit. My 15 year old son Matthew might also be having a go. Anyone else? If you haven't done it before, it's a very well run event. The course isn't particularly technical. It's as much like a cyclo-cross race as it is like a mountain bike race.

Should think I'll be there too Dan.In so much as I'll be riding round with a number on,not exactly racing though!

It's definately a good event to try if anyone's not had a go at mtb racing.

I think I'll only be riding around with a number on as well, Mike. But that should make it nice and competitive at the back of the field! Wink

I hope to be there but I haven't signed up yet. I'm leaving it as late as possible because I want to get in one or two rides on the mountain bike first (currently zero rides since early June). It isn't technical but I'm still a bit wary of hitting the deck on my left side. Yell

I'm planning to go if I get my car back on the road on time.

Slightly perturbed that the 2 lap fun group I remember from last time I did this (about 10 years ago!) seems to have disappeared so I'll be the guy bringing up the rear of the seniors!

I've signed up now. I'll be racing in the Veterans category. My middle son Matthew (15) is racing in the Youths category.

I'll be taking it fairly easy as I'm a long way from race fit and I don't want to re-break my collarbone either. Will still be gunning it over the grassy sections, but will be taking the descents very, very gingerly. Frown

What happens with the time trial bit? Do you just line up whenever between 9:30 and 10:30 to do your lap? Then have a break and eat your packed lunch while you wait for the mass start race? (The big sit down meal isn't going to work for us racing vets, I don't think, cos we'll be riding while everyone else is eating.)

You're right about the morning time trial dan, though I think it is optional.

What's the final roll call then?

Mark Grange (vet), Andy Browne (vet), Mike Agar (senior), Tom Stockill (senior), Dan Joyce (vet)… My son Matthew (youth) looks doubtful, as he's got a streaming cold, which I'm hoping I don't catch… I've got a tickle at the back of my throat, but that's nothing - apart from another excuse - did I mention my collarbone? - that I'm getting in early).

Possibles are: Simmsy, David S, and Dan F. Also there should be Rich Maw and his son Dan (youth?).

I think you just line up to do your TT between 9.30 and 10.30. How they time you I don't know. Photo start, photo finish?

Good day today. I'll put a proper report up when I know the final results. There will be a few pictures for the gallery too.

The format was: one lap time trial in the morning, followed by the racing in the early afternoon. Tom Stockill put a blistering ride in the time trial - top five I think. Mark Grange was also very quick, as was Richard Maw. Even me and Mike came somewhere in the seventies out of about 140 entrants.  Team RCC placed in the group TT results - 3rd, I think. Other good rides from Rich's son, Dan Maw, and Matt Browne and his mate.

The afternoon was a mixed bag. First casualty was Tom Stockill, who went from about 3rd in sport to packing after his gears broke. Mike blew up after two laps. I did too, but being a vet I only had two laps rather than three to do. But there were good results again for Mark, Rich, and Mike Thompson (who I think won his class?).

Course was longer than last year. 7.3 miles per lap. Some very draggy grassy sections, and a bit greasy going down into the quarry.

I'm just glad I got around without breaking anything - body or bike. Laugh

Tom…checked the rules and you can have 3 riders in the TT….it says UP TO 4 riders! So they were ok with 3.
