I am planning riding the West Highland Way in May over 3 days.  Dates open to negotiation but I want to finalise it by the end of Dec.

Accommodation will be hostel or bed and breakfast and all luggage will be transfered by a company to the next overnight stop so you will only have day packs.

Anyone who fancies coming along let me know soonest

The route is best ridden north to south so from Fort William to Milnagavie.  Most walkers go south to north so you will see them coming towards you and vice versa.  I reckon the three days will be:  Fort william to Kinghouse - 25 miles. kinghouse to Inversnaid - 38 miles. Inversnaid to Milngavie - 34 miles.  so three days riding and one day travelling up overnight at Fort William and a nights stay before traveling back.

It is the same as the walking route so most will be rideable but there will be some bike carrying along the way!  Yes it is legal to ride!

May is good - no midges

I have put a link here and you can read a report from two riders who rode it in 2005.

Wow - that looks like a lot of fun, maybe a bit TOO much fun !? Fast, technical and descent is the bit that worries me ! Maybe I could hook up with some Dutch and do it that way Wink

I like the sound of this one too. My trouble would be getting the missus to like the sound of it, as im already deserting her for 6 days over easter. However, she is a helpful kind of soul and may enjoy getting involved with the trip as a support act/skivvy/slave/baggage handler (eg. like my coast to coast ride ). So, if perhaps the group is not too large then it may be possible to do things this way and not use a seperate company, keep prices down etc.. I can offer her phone number to anybody brave enough to ask the question Laugh …as she scares the hell out of me!

I asked the missus about this trip last night, and she seemed mildly keen on the idea of helping out, although I think she wants to hear a few more details before committing. So ill keep working on her, as she would be driving a 7 seater discovery with a trailer which should be a great help Smile

Ok the dates for this trip will be Monday 9th May to thursday 12th May.  The ride will start on Monday 9th May and finish on weds 11th May. travel back will be on thursday 12th May.

If anyone fancies it let me know by 20th Jan as I will be booking accommodation at the end of this month this is a popular walking route so need to book early.  Cost of baggage transfers is £25, accommodation and food I reckon £60 per day per person.  Then train fare back to the start will be about £20 per person.

There is then the car cost for getting to and from Scotland.
