Good Day Sunshine
What a morning to be out bikin' Robin Hoods Bay basking in sunshine whilst I hear Scarborough was in the mist, most unusual normally Peak being at 600' above sea level you can't see the end of your front wheel when there's any mist about.
Adam and I were the only brave souls to venture out, and we were well and truly treated with a gem of a morning, a real bonus this time of year.
We left a chilly Peak by the road up to the mast a mile of slog, but we soon warmed up, we then took the bridleway across the moor to The Ranch, if your in need of an anvil this guy has many to choose from. We then went down and up to Spring Hill (where your bottled water comes from), then the next bit down past Harry's Folly is really good, fast and rutted - we both stayed upright! Up to Colycroft where you pick up the Boggle Hole road down to the cinder track. About 100m on the track then up (and I mean up!) to Swallow Head Farm, fantastic old building on the process of being renovated. Then followed the bridleway until the path biforcates, taking the right turn ”SP” Ramsdale. There is a diversionary path across the top for when it gets really muddy, but not needed today. Down to Ramsdale Mill where we stopped for a breather taking in the wonders of the old water wheel. The track from there is really good and fast down to Fyling Hall School, at that point it was decision time head back or into Bay Town for coffee, we picked the latter, so a speedy descent into Bay Town, our planned cafe stop was shut, so before venturing down to the bottom it was a quick tally up of how much cash we had, I had 4.90 Adam had, well , well lets say we just had enough!
The new cafe down the bottom was open, can't remember what it was called, coffee was good and we had 10p left over!
After coffee I decided it would be less embarressing pushing all the way up the hill rather than only getting so far, glad I did coz its steep. We then picked up the cinder track as far as the quarry at Ravenscar where we took a little diversion picking up the Clevelend Way back to Raven Hall Road.
Just shy of 15 miles - a great route for a summers evening.
Come on Lorraine where were you - did this one for you!!
