Well the “13″ rode tonight! , a really keen and enthusiastic group. Everyone was a little reserved at first. I took them on a fairly flat route of single track and more single track. Keith got his entry in for the prize of best un-authorized dismount. Cathy managed to fall in the only smelly puddle in the forest, tho i did make them ride that section twice just to make sure it got someone! Alan, Brendon’s dad made us realize where Brendon got his skill from, clearly ready for Matt’s intermediate group, as is Richard”sugar puff”(sorry Richard!) Phil”the taxi” breezed through it all, very nice to see him back out! Chris, one of the Sunday family riders cheerfully attacked everything, even “the ditch” Another one Matt may try to poach from “The 13″ Lizzy glided easily over everything, only hugging one tree! Mike C beamed all the way round, clearly enjoying riding with wife Deb, who managed to miss Cathy’s smelly puddle, getting faster as the ride went on.Yvonne decided to let the entire population of midges in the forrest eat her so we weren’t bothered, thanks! She also rode over every hazard i warned about, a star in the making ! By the end of the ride the group were starting to get to know one another, there was plenty of laughter, and hopefully some sound friendships formed. So to those who missed tonight’s ride, i hope to see you next week, holidays and work permitting. Finally a big thank you to Lorraine and Pete who rode along with us to make sure i didn’t loose anyone, get us lost,(only a little bit!) and make it back to THE PUB ! And as it was the Anvil ,CHIPS!!!!!!!!

So are the MTBer coming to ride the time trial in 2 weeks at Burton Fleming - its handicapped so a good chance for those beginneers to walk away with the fastest MTBer. Be good to see the two sections together - then you could invite the roadies for a blast in the forest!!
Also you get to eat Hazels well renowned baking here on the Wolds - but no chips!

It was an enjoyable evening over ground that I had not cycled before.
I think Debbie, you will find I demonstrated for other the consequence of not having correct body positioning when exiting a sump
Will be missing the next couple as we are on holiday. Will catch up once back.
p.s. Kathy's shoe is still wet

Sounds like you had a good ride. Debbie's group was so large that Siobhan and I were Billy-No-Mates in the middle group! So we buckled under pressure and followed the fast guys. Had a great ride - thanks to the other guys for showing the way - and demonstrating the pitfalls of hidden logs, broken seat posts and deep mud. The woods above Sawdon are getting popular now, some good beginner and intermediate trails through there.
Siobhan and I are riding from Low Dalby on Sunday morning (1.Aug) 10:15am “ready to ride” in the visitor centre carpark if anyone's out and fancies a couple of hours riding some parts of the red…. or any other interesting looking trails we come across. Strictly social / intermediate level (nothing worse!) - we'll leave the 70milers to their epic moors trip from Helmsley to Scarborough while we wander around the forest. Low Dalby begins with a bit of a winding climb but gives a great return through what we know as “The Spanish Run” at the end of the ride as a reward. Worth a go if anyone wants another ride after Thursday night.

I really enjoyed the ride last night. Hope to be able to come next week. I may even leave deb's group for Billy-No-Mates in the middle group if she can not remember my proper name.
Also when is this time trial as it sounds interesting, not least the part about it being at Burton Fleming (Closer and easyer to get to from my home in Filey.)
Hope to be there again next week

Time Trial is at Burton Fleming on 12th Aug sign on at 6.30pm at the Village hall you cannot miss it our club banner will be flying outside. If you are riding a MTB remember get some slicks or your less aggresive tyres and pump up to max pressure.
Hope to see you there. And the atmosphere is good and a lot of encouragement for new riders.

Unfortunately I was not able to come on Thursday as my bike was at the shop waiting for a new pair of forks after my old pair broke last weekend.

Probably be a couple of weeks now before I have chance to come again.

Not a lot. Debbie throught it was something loose/worn inside that was rubbing that caused it, and also the fact I wasn't quick enough in spoting it.

good turnout for Thursday again, this was split into 2 groups, Debbie took one lot and I went with “the lovely Pete”, 2 other ladies and dragged my other half Mike with us, lots of tips and encouragement from the guys and although this was probably too easy at least I could get used to handling my bike a bit more, there was a bit of everything in the ride, but don't ask me where we were (think Pete was bit lost at 1 point LOL, will put breadcrumbs out next time, ) i even attempted a large hill!!!! got stuck at the top and promptly fell off, Pete said “oh for goodness sake you are attention seeking now, get up” after 3 rides am feeling much more confident……..

Last weeks ride had so many people out we actually split into 3 beginners groups! The lovely Pete, ( i do like nick names, think that one will stick, well chosen Debbie C) brought up the rear with the late comers and slightly slower riders, i took the rest with the help of sandwich chris and Rich from the Pickering 3 (we need a nick name for him people?!) we did the 2nd half of my ten miler, ok there was mud and the single track was very narrow and yes at times the bracken was so high we did struggle to see day light, but it was fun wasn't it???/ We then split and the boys led the boys and i took the girls, well more or less. Rich thinks he is on commission and helped Dave (Yvonne's other half) to wreak his bike, well that's mountain biking i guess. All appeared keen to venture out again so on Thursday the 19th we will be meeting at the Everley. I promise some wonderful scenery, some fast flowing single track, maybe a split into two groups so those that want to do a downhill can (and climb out) then and i am not kidding honest, a downhill that finishes at a pub! Be there!
