Well another great turn out for what turned out to be a rather wet night, and no moon so very very dark too. The fast group set off first and in a different direction to the social group, Little Hopper led a rather small group of Hackness Mike, Dan, and Russ, think that was it. they headed off up the middle track at Darcombe and were gone when we got back, hopefully Dan will fill us in on what they got up too. We social lot, were myself, Too Tall Tom, The Tedman, Philip, Matt, Lorraine, Big Baked Bean, Philip 2, nursing a damaged ankle but still at the front! Chris 2, Garth, Liam, and finally Toby, who lost his chain (!) 5 mins into the ride so sadly headed off home. We did the shot gun and dogs ride, thru Langdale via the Blue Man, along the road to cross cliff which most didn't know existed and not many had ridden on. It is a really scenic ride, but the pitch darkness meant we had to visualize it! A climb over Thompson's Rigg led up to Fylingdales. Liam got a puncture and the Tedman manfully offered to lead the faster riders back! Matt changed the tube whilst i grumbled, god i was a misery! But i cheered up and we blasted down 7 mile hike in good spirits. Thanks all!

The anti-social group (not really, but it's not the social group) went up a massive hill by Darncombe, then another massive hill not long after that. I thought I could get up pretty much anything in 32×34. I was wrong. Steve Hopper's good on hills so I think he likes punishing the rest of us, who do steady effort better than peak power. Confused Time to fit a granny ring, I reckon. A good ride, though, with some very slithery bits. We did some bits of the old black route and we rode by the river at one point, but went the opposite way to the socials, and also did that descent at Crosscliffe where the SSUK course went. I minced down that 'cos I'm not the most technical rider.

It's funny the excuses everyone comes up with isn't it? I kept blaming my 'Kenda Surprise' summer tyres (Karmas). Hackness Mike kept telling us how he'd been hammered by Young Mike on Tuesday. Russ was kinda busy trying to suck all the oxygen out of the air. Wink Steve Hopper kept stalling on steep bits as Squeak's worn-chainring bike he was on had terrible chain suck. (That's what he said anyway: maybe he just kept getting off and faffing with the gears cos he was burnt out by then and needed a breather. Wink)
