Another big group. The Pickering 2 led the fast group and the Creche up to Dalby via the pig track with plans to do the top half of the red. Tom and i had ridden out, 11 and a bit miles, we were more than happy to lead the social group. We headed after the anti social on a route Houghing Jax had suggested. When in Dalby we headed into the SSSI area opposite the start of the bomb holes. The track was in fab condition but that didn't stop The Tedman trying to pop one of his eyes out by riding into a tree. By now we had picked up an escapee from the fast group, Brendon, who was a real help picking up our downed riders, first Tedman , then later in the ride, Too Tall Tom, who due to probs with his light didn't see the foot deep mud in the middle of the tarmac descent! Everyone enjoyed the SSSI. The moon was out and it was a beautiful and still night. Perfect mountain biking weather! Matt felt he started slow but it didn't show, anyway he did 3 laps on Sunday so was entitled to take it easy. Ravenscar Chris was wishing he had pushed for 3 laps on Sunday, he is certainly looking a lot fitter every ride, well done Chris. Siobahn was out, first time for ages, so lovely to see her, and quite frankly going much faster than expected. I suspect secret training. Rumour has it she has been riding with the Pocket Rocket on a Sunday! Also out for the first time in a while was Liam, he knows how to make an impression and brought chocolate. Well we were working hard! From the SSSI we picked a new downhill which was fab, that led onto Too Tall Tom's muddy road. We seemed to descend for ever but joy was to come and we got a very big climb at the end. Adam also seems to get stronger with every ride, so took the hill with gusto! Well maybe! Tom and i left the group as they headed down to the pub and we retraced our outward journey down Wrench Green and home! Thanks all! How was your ride with the fast group Dan?

I rode with the fast fast group, which was Pickering Dave, Rich Simms, and me. We were properly antisocial! No stops except a couple of pauses to sort Dave's headlight and my slipping seatpost.
Can I just say now that…
…I think I was still a bit tired from Sunday.
…I forget to eat beforehand or bring any snacks.
…my bike was the heaviest.
…er, maybe I've got a cold coming on…
Dave and Rich have clearly been doing some training (surely cheating?) and set a high tempo pace. We kept it going all the way around. All the way around was up the pig track, into Dalby to pick up the red route near the pay booth. We did all the top bit of the red route, then took in the bomb holes as well, and came back along the pig track where we caught the social group. 18 miles or so, average speed something like 11.2mph, max speed over 30mph.
I slipped off the back a few times. Dave and Rich are both better technical riders than me, clearly as fit or fitter, and I forgot to go to the front on the night's big climb, the only place where I could've turned the screw and put them into the red.
Good ride, though. No real drama. Dave got whipped by a bush which dislodged his light and made for some disco style singletrack. Rich's dry weather Michelins were skating and scraping alarmingly on the red switchback descent. Mostly, though, it was just about cranking it round. Sometimes it's good to just hammer along. We did chat on the way round too. We weren't completely antisocial!
By the time we got to the Anvil, I would have stolen sweets off a child I was so hungry. No sweets to be had, sadly, and no one brought chocolate on our ride. But there were peanuts and chips, and beer. Food of champions.
P.S. Yeah, okay Rich: I was owned.

Well Dan, despite the lack of chocolate, the cast-iron bike and the terminal man-flu - you shot past Ravenscar Chris and I on the last bit back to Sawdon, so you couldn't have been in that bad state - or you were slipstreaming brilliantly. And we were pushing as hard as we could - there was the famous Anvil “Chip-Bucket” waiting for us in the pub afterall!
Got back to the cars and loaded the bikes back onto them. As I unclipped lights and stuff I found half a handlebar mount where the GPS unit had been at the start of the ride. Nuts! Somewhere out in the SSSI route was my GPS. No problem, I could retrace the route on the GP…. doh!
It was a nice morning so I headed into work via Troutsdale just in case it had dropped on the road (where Too Tall Tom snagged a hedge). It was a nice morning and a nice drive (deer, pheasants, rabbits, sunshine and stuff). I passed the exit of the rocky descent …. (where we all went quiet half way down when we realised how far we'd have to climb back out)…. hmmm … rocky descents tend to shake stuff loose so I hiked back up to see if there was anything. As I neared the top I was starting to think “this is stupid, why would it be here”… I was about to turn around when … I found it, sitting on the first slab of rock as the downhill starts. Nice start to the day!
But now I have a new dilemma, I don't have to buy a new GPS, so does that mean I can buy something else with that money? Answers on a post card please ….. Debs and you guys in the shop, no need to reply.
We're going to do the route again on Sunday morning.
BTW: Saw the first Peak District photos on the homepage… doesn't that look great!

Le creche had another good ride, led by our child minder Nigel the tricks, who is flying at the mo and now even faster after christening his lapierre with some real yorkshire mud.
7 of us set of across the pig track or as i know it the Lingy,we lost Brendon who joined the other group so the 6 of us went exploring in Dalby. We kept asking the main man “where are we?” and the reply was always the same “I could tell you but then i would have to kill you”.We rode a mixture of mud, bogs, single track and fire road and didnt touch the red route. After seeing eyes in the trees and stories of soilders creeping up on people in the pitch black we thought it best to get back,Nigel,Hackness Mike and myself (team Lapierre richardsons cc yorkshire.com)put our 90 gears between us to the test,Nick(mayor of sawdon),big Keith with sleeves and Langdale Rich following very close.
popped out near Givendale farm so back across the pig track(lingy)and back to sawdon
15 mlie round trip another enjoyable ride

> “I could tell you but then i would have to kill you”
Which translates as “You were following me? I was following you!”
> 'lingy'
Russ, you're right I think it's called Ling Road (according to a bloke on a horse I once spoke to there) {*}
But when the mud's gloopy, the ruts are deep and the puddles deeper, it's definitely the pig track.
{*} I spoke to the bloke, not the horse, the horse was ignoring me.
