Despite the torrential rain during the day a fair few hardy souls turned up for the evening ride. We met up at the village hall at sawdon and split into 2 groups. Nigel the skills, little hopper, Pickering 2, stu and soon to be renamed, more later, Handsome Richard, and Lewis headed up across the pig track into Dalby to ride what was called a 'Debbie route 'which as my keen followers will know involved mud, nettles, more mud and some near impassable single track, a little bit of fun trail and then back on a very sticky pig track. Well done lads, glad you know a good thing.
Pickering Dave led us chatty socials into Sawdon to plan either his social or fast route for the family day. He eased us in gently with a down hill just out of the village. We had had 3 stops by this point. capt Blood with no free wheel, Siobahn with a too low seat post and something else which iv blanked from my mind, 3 stops before we left the village?!! You guys are asking for trouble.
The downhill and the track through the valley proved all rideable but very wet with some jovial discussion re tyre choice. langdale Richard voted for Nobby nics but as i was unable to ride up much with them changed his mind, tho i have to say it was prob pilot error. Twiggy simply got off if i stopped, muttering, no point nobby nics or some thing! We then went through a field of cows, i explained to Capt Blood that it was not cute for the small cows to come and run by us as the big ones tended to charge at us if they did. Siobahn suddenly found that any tyre choice would do just hit big ring and pedal like crazy and get out of there! We all survived and Dave took us on some sweet single track for simply ages. As we were all in a good mood we decided to spoil someones evening and give them a nick name. Adam lost and was christened Buttons. It started because he can drive fast but safely. so a racing driver name was thought to be suitable, Senna was the most popular but in the end decided against due to his demise so a living hero it had to be, Jenson Button which was quickly changed to Buttons by Capt Blood. Adam was under whelmed but there you go, such is life, Buttons it is. Ravenscar Chris started the race for the pub, what does he put in his crisps i wonder? Shredded wheat i believe!
The fast lads were already back when we turned up, all rather wet and filthy. I decided to change behind the bicycle sheds, sorry village hall, and when i reappeared was just in time to not look at handsome Richard take off his shorts! I did not re-christen him little Richard and believe it was just boys banter that the name cropped up!
It was then pub, chips and home . A good very social evening, thanks all.
