The Famous Five Matt, Simon, Rick, Nick and myself gathered at Bryherstones on what was a cool blustery night… was a clear night the moon half way through it's waxing cycle so visibility was good.
We turned left out of the CP past Hayburn Wyke then up and down Hodgsons Hill, turning left at the first BW which winds it's way uphill to the Scarborough Whitby Road. Once onhe road it was a tough 3/4 mile heading into the wind before turning into Harwood Dale woods. The shelter of the woods was welcomed, but no one was over dressed enough to take any layers off, it was quite cool. So we cracked on so as not to lose any heat, continuing on a fire road before picking up some single track with a couple of nice down hills, then a bit of a push up a steep hill, I told the guys to look at the line coz we might be comin' back this way, from the comments I heard thought best not, but I'll make them suffer somewhere else!
We made our down through Fairy Wood, which is a superb slow and technical bit through the trees, in fact it was that good we turned around and went back up it, rejoined the fire track which joins the main road about 1/2 mille north of the Falcon.
Crossing the road we picked up the bridleway to three lords stone, then it was across a very breezy moor to the mast, which I think tested the guys, knowing the line and having done it earlier in the day I thought nothing of and just cracked on! Then there was a bit of a split in the group, Matt & Nick opting for the Road down to Ravenscar whilst the rest took the BMTG down past the mast and picked up a brilliant downhill singletrack to School Lane, the bay looked stunning even in the dark twinkling lights and all that!
We joined up again on Bent Rigg Lane where it was a blast downhill and down wind to where it crosses the railway line, we then belted down the railway line to Hayburn Wyke, up the driveway and back to Bryherstones.
Four of us went in for a pint, much to the relief of Paul Shipley, thought we'd just used his car park for free.. next time tell him we're going please.
Good ride, bit breezy in places the bit's around Harwood Dale are spot on and it's nice to be almost mud free.
