Well it turned out to be a very mild night but i think yesterday's cold spell put a few off, and some riders had gone to the pics! I ask you! Still we had 9 on the social, myself ( introducing my new nick name)Debbie “Scout” Richardson, Houghing Jax, The Baked Bean family, Brendon, Lorainne, Lizzy, and Toby (Wallace),we need some more nick names, any suggestions?, I expect Clair can help out with plenty for Bren! The fast Team comprised of Hackness Mike, leading the group in his own special way, our retiring press hound Dan, Lewis and Malton Carl, who i am fully confident really led the group! Lewis nearly knocked Mike into a rather large puddle, but he didn't mention it much and am sure holds no grudges! We did almost a reverse Ann's broken ankle, which did mean a rather hard start but a lovely fast finish. We dropped down over Thompsons Rigg after a rather impressive view of R.A.F.Fylingdales. The llamas were not there but we did see some rather wonderful donkeys, Lizzy clearly a big fan. Time was getting on so we finished with a blast down the road, Marcus Baked Bean overtaking his dad at over 25 miles an hour. Don't think John or Angie could decide wether to be annoyed or proud! Well done anyway for making the corner! Not wanting to steel Marcus' thunder, but Too Tall Tom did 47 miles an hour down there a few weeks ago! When i heard i was not impressed! He is doing 40 challenges for his 40th, so really, i blame The Hough as she started it! Matt was missed, but no gold links were needed, tho the Baked Beans have it all ready to return to Matt when he returns from America. I am beginning to think his job with sticky labels or some such is a cover. All this traveling, methinks he could be an undercover spy, comments please! Finally, well done to Toby who was recovering from a bug but still came out to ride!

There was no nearly about the knocking into a puddle. Lewis stopped dead in an axle-deep trough near Fylingdales. Mike stopped behind him - in the deepest bit. I think he got wet feet; he may have mentioned it once or twice later on.
We went past Fylingdales too, then over to Crosscliff. We also did Narnia and some of the red route reversed. That was the hardest bit, as it's getting really chopped up and rocky where the surface has washed away, exposing the rocks underneath. We came back via Darncombe.
Good ride. I nearly didn't get out, for one reason and another, but I'm glad I did.

I've done 50mph going down into Hackness, although that was on a road bike and 23mm tyres. While it isn't as steep as some hills there's a fairly straight run out, so as long as you can get round the two corners at the top and the slight off-camber bit when you start to drop down you can really go for it.
I've heard of people clocking over 60mph (e.g. in the Alps) but never seen it, or got anywhere near that, myself.

Thanks to all for waiting for me. Still suffering for it though, completely shattered for the past 3/7 with recurrence of D&V. Reminder to self- ' don't ride until fully recovered!!'
