Seven of us met at the Rosette tonight: Mike, Steve, Nigel (back from biking in Scotland),  Russ, Ravenscar Chris, a guy I've not met before, and me. Lovely and warm, but the clouds promised rain.

Chris decided against going out with us anti-socials and the pair of them headed off on a ride of their own, while Steve, Mike, Nigel, Russ and me headed up into Raincliffe. That long climb to the top track was in great condition. Mike was cursing for not clearing it. Apparently it was Steve's fault!

Then we tore along the top. Lots of vegetation up there now, and my arms were red and itchy after encounters with holly bushes, nettles and more.

We went through Hackness and up Whisperdales, getting onto the Broxa Challege route for a bit. Steve kept winding up the pace, with Mike hot on his wheel, while the rest of us gave chase as best we could. Russ found a pair of glasses at one point - anyone lost any up there? I had to bail on a couple of climbs, but the others waited for me… just long enough for the rain to catch us.

A heavy shower struck as we zipped down Hay Brow. It was hard to see anything. I didn't stop at the Rosette as I had nothing to change into and was soaked.

A good, fast paced ride all the same, with time for a bit of natter too. And this time I came home with as many functioning gears as I left with: one. Bonus.

How was your ride, Chris?
