It is that time of year, regulars will know what i mean, Ann's Broken Ankle ride. For those that don't, here's the tale. Late August about, gosh 5 years ago, (that right Ann?) a group of us rode from the Moorcock , up Darcombe, to Bickley, Old Wifes Way, Malo Cross and back to the pub via Fylingdales. We made it fine until, on a rocky technical piece of single track, a bad dab between rocks resulted in a badly broken ankle for poor Ann, and a legend was born.Martin and Damian (missed , where are you guys) carried Ann to the fire break, but no way could she walk or ride. We were stuck about ten miles from the pub with no car access, after much pleading the military police gave Ann and Anna, (we miss you Anna!) a lift to the pub and the cars, they then escorted Julian (missed too!) back to get the bikes, whilst the rest of us dashed back, no lights and getting very dark
. Ann had 2 nights in hospital, it was a very bad brake, but soon recovered and was back on her bike. Since then, each year around this time, we ride it again. Tonight we had two groups, the faster led by Chris Tedman, and i led the beginners group. Chris' team did an extra climb, the middle track with an extra downhill. Garth clearly trying to muscle into Ann's legend dived over the bars and ended up in A and E, nice try Garth, but nothing broken so no legend!. We all met up and rode most of the rest of the ride together, it got very dark and not enough lights , but hey that's all part of the ride. We had a fair few new riders, My friend Corinne C.D. clothing Dennis and her friend Annie joined in, all the way from beyond York, not quite the beginners ride they were expecting but enjoyed all the same. It was great to see Jane out again after her summer away. Lizzie”no brakes” continues to amaze us, she nearly cleaned all the climbs and coped fine with the distance, well done. Many thanks to Siobahn and Lewis for looking after Garth. Chris C lit the way for us,thanks, so i guess it's lights on from now on! The club has loan sets to lend for members to try out riding in the dark so no excuses
