On Sunday the 24th the club will be having it's Yorkshire Day ride. This is a 75 miler off road from Helmsley to Scarborough sea front. We have ridden this twice before and it is a great route. It is a full day, leaving Helmsley approx 930am and arrive in Scarborough at about 6pm. It will be great preparation for the Keilder 100 too. If interested in coming along either post here and text me 07828116525 for more info. I wonder if anyone is also up for a shorter slightly slower ride, maybe from The Lion , which is the full route's 20 mile point, hopefully then all meeting up near the end. again get in touch with me if so. yes i do know the following Sunday is better for Yorkshire day but i am away then so i asked for a switch!

Im hoping to come along on this ride too. Just need to get out of work for the day, and sort Helen out for a lift to Helmsley and cake & flap jack baking duties. If lifts are required for other riders then im sure Helen can sort out a cattle trailer (for the bikes not riders!) or something similar….
Fingers crossed for the weather

The ten were myself, Too Tall Tom, The Pickering 3, Russ the Pliers, Richard formally Langdale, Phil Travolta, Giles and new comer Alistair Chalmers, yes Steve who did Mayhem's son. Pics and more tomorrow! zzzzzzzzzz

Well what a brilliant ride. The Scarborough gang, me TooTall, Giles, and Richard met Philip Travola with driver Helen and passenger Russ the Pliers at my house. That meant i got an extra 10 mins in bed. Phil the Taxi had sorted out a taxi to take us to Helmsley and the bikes went in the horse box. We picked up Alistair on the way, sorted. The Pickering 3 met us in Helmsley market place and after the traditional coffee and bun we were off. The route was the same, a road climb out of Helmsley towards Carlton then down and up and over dale until Fadmoor. As usual the big downhill sorted the men from the girls, note re pics when we get them, i was hugging the tree for dramatic effect! Also keeping with tradition we overshot the right hand turning half way down a hill even tho we had discussed not to do that only seconds before! Ah well at least Stu didn't try to ram me off my bike this year!
It seemed we were at Fadmoor in record time, so another photo and snack.Stu had a banana! Then Rudland Rigg, miles up hill into a head wind, what joy. I selflessly brought up the rear incase anyone got lost! At the aptly named Bloworth crossing i woke the guys up and we were off again, all feeling the cold. So as quick as poss we rode to The Lion and a sandwich and a drink brought us round. Me, never one to miss a trick managed to sell some holiday makers a bearing kit for a Giant Trance! Result!
We now got our reward for all that effort and the sun blessed us finally with it's presence. The next 10 miles was a mix of sublime singletrack and very quiet road. Then a few good road downhills followed by some height gain! I didn't hear anyone moaning about it, though that might have been because i was so far back and out of ear shot! We left the road and after a blast through newtondale forest it was down to Levisham station so Stu could do some train spotting. He had kindly arranged for us to be on the wrong side of the track whilst we were given a display of a train arriving, then another one arriving, then we got to look at them for some time all the while desperate for a cup of tea, so close and yet so far! Finally the train left, the barriers lifted and it was tea and cake time, well after the kettle had boiled!
We had a very nice chat to some of the Swaledale adventure club, and then it was pay back time for that descent and up and up and up to the Hole of Horcum. No time for an ice cream, we were on the home run. Across old wives way to crosscliffe, down Wrench Green, too fast! Then the c cut and a new finish, no ice cream but the pub at Scalby Mills instead! I have never seen Russ the Pliers look quite so happy, as he downed his first pint! Captain Blood and The pocket rocket were there to greet us! I had lashings and lashings of ginger beer, i think the boys had something a wee bit stronger! Then we finished with fish and chips! A job well done. Hope to see more of you next year!
