Andy Browne and me turned out for the first in a series of five time trials on the V718 course near Hull. It's on the A63, near South Cave. It was a windy evening, with a 20mph or so breeze coming in off the sea. Not ideal, but better than the wind blowing the other way because you turn around a roundabout halfway after riding east for 4 miles or so, so it was behind us for longer than it was in front of us. At any rate, Andy did well and got a personal best time for 10 miles: 23 minutes 31 seconds. I was 23 seconds slower: 23:54. I'll catch him yet! We were around the middle of the results. I can't remember what the winner got. About 20 minutes I think. Some of these guys are really fast.

We were losing the light a bit towards the end of the race, so like lots of other competitors we had blinky lights on. After the race, it was dark enough that Andy couldn't see a raise central reservation in the road near the race HQ. He ran into it at about 3mph, fell off, and cut his hand. He was okay, though, and so was his bike.

Next local 10-mile time trial is on the Pickering-Malton road on 20th May. It costs £2 to enter and starts at 7.30, but you need to sign on by 7.15. Start is near the Black Bull pub. If you fancy having a go, let me know and I'll provide more details.

Ya know like the 18th fastest dude out of 90 riders, who's only 41 years old, with 2.5 years TT'in under his belt.

Fair point, Tommo. Smile

When I first wrote that, I only had mine and Andy's times memorised, cos I hadn't uploaded the pic of the results I'd taken from my camera. I have now.

Other local riders were:

Chris Goodway (Malton) 21:42

Tommo (Paragon) 21:44

Mike Storey (Paragon) 21:57

Dave Priestman (Paragon) 23:49 (reckon I lost those five seconds to Dave on the way back, pedalling like propellors on fixed…)

Elaine Ward (Paragon) 24:23

It was getting a bit dark for the late riders. On that subject, what's the best aero-ish blinky light anyone's found for racing? Wants to fit up against the back of the saddle rails really. I've got a couple of single LED lights front and rear, plus four more in the vents of my aero helmet, but some riders were noticeably brighter than others out on the road. (And obviously, I can't tell how bright or not I was. Although I'm bright enough to add 6 + 2, Tommo. Wink)

It's 4567534+98753 I find a bit OTTFrown

Good lad, I had to leave before half the results were down so would like to know how everyone did, Andy must have been happy with that, and on a good day should get a 22.

Those really small LED's (Electron's I think) can just be taped on to your chainstays one on each side, this Dude in front of me did that and it was pretty good. Someone had two on the underside of their bars as well (White)

With gears at the end when I 'give it some' on the flat finish I hit 37.5mph. Still a minute down on my Pb from Good Friday, cos of the wind going out.
