saturday morning rides

from september there will be a steady ride to go along with the usual saturday crew. i know a couple of us will be racing pretty much every sunday, and if we go out it will be a shorter ride.

no more than 2 hours max, and it will be at a steady pace, no one will get left behind, everyone will stick together, there wont be a stop, with it only been a short ride.

the idea behind this comes as the saturday morning rides seem to be dwindling in numbers. getting new faces out is very important, and we realise people have to start somewhere, we just hope these kind of rides will get you interested, and give you a taste of perhaps going further thoughout next summer,

if anyones interested let me know, any questions…ask away

Works good for the cyclocross racers aswell. Need to go out for an “Easy” ride the day before a race.

Im hoping to join you all again for a few Saturdays, although I have always said that Saturday is “Mandy” day.

Do you set off at 9AM from Crossgates still?

So how does this fit in with the steady Sunday morning club rides?  Saturday has always been a slightly harder ride.

the problem is that the saturday ride somtimes lacks numbers, theres no new faces, always the usuals,

there still is the hard ride which geoff, jimmy barry etc will do, but me rob and carl will only be doing a short ride, we just want to get new faces out on a saturday, and thought this would be a good way of doing so,

not wanting to hijack the sunday ride, its just another option for people, the more rides avalible the better?

theres alot of members in rcc, and paragon, both in scarborough, i hear andy gets a few out on a wednesday, but saturdays at best get 9, but usually 5-6, and sunday rides i cant comment….theres alot of riders out there not doing club rides, so adding another day for them to do so has to be good.

That explains it better which is need as posting on an RCC website about a ride we publicise to members and list as club ride we need to know where it fits in.

My personal recommendation would still be for new riders to try the easy sunday run and if that intensity is not enough for them then go along to the sat ride.

I see what you are offering is an easy ride for anyone racing on Sundays?

yes, that aswell, just an option of a steady spin for all, to try and ease them in for harder rides, there are no new riders constantly coming out, i understand not everyone can make each week, i know ive only done a hand ful this year…but this is why we need more riders out, its only going to benifit the individual, the clubs, and more inportantly the sport.

Yes true…..however new riders are coming out on the weds night runs but this does end before winter so this might help over the winter months.

if you want to help the sport support your local club Wink

With the Sunday 'Social' ride going off at a very 'Un-Social' 8.30am, a steadier 9.30am ride on a Saturday will, I am sure, be very popular. Laugh

Lewis - our regular Sunday morning organiser usually arranges for rides to go off at 8.30am. I think this will change as we get into winter.

Toms, just let me know details of when and where the steadier rides will go from and times. Also what distance and avg speed? There would need to be a commitment for the first ride to ensure slower riders are not left etc. Bril idea tho. I can get Lorainne to email all about it and i can mention it in the shop. oh, and dalby red run in 141! What kept you?Wink last time i did it was near 241! Confused

cross gates bus stop, ride sets off about 9-30, distance will be at an absolute top 30 miles, definatly no more, average speed will purely depend on weather conditions, about 16mph,

what we are wanting to get out of this is more riders out on the hard ride, we will be going out with the hard ride but turing off early.

i stopped for a picnic when i did the red route…followed by a quick trip on the zip wires on go apeWink

Carl the webmaster is looking into it. It's not just forum posts but the whole site (pictures, news posts, etc). It looks like the site is running from a backup taken a little over a week ago. I don't know why. Possibly the server crashed? As I say, we're (well, Carl, not me) checking it out.

Bikes are available through booking with CTC.  There is a standard fee of £25 for use (no matter how many bikes you have).  If you are taking a group they might ask for qualifications for group leading.

If you want the contact pm me.

Well a reasonable turn out this morning with 10 riders at the bus stop at Crossgates.

Geoff came up with a route over toward Westow.   The group ended up with 7 riders in the end after Tom went off at Snainton ….never saw Keith or Dan peel off??

Ride was a fast one and we totalled 56 miles.  Arriving back over 3 hours after the start.  Fantastic day for a ride but deceptively windy in places.

I peeled off at Yedingham with Tom. Pace was a bit keen for me on my fixie, although I had planned to shortcut at some point anyway. I did 30 miles door to door. Great morning for a ride.
