ON Sunday 23rd we were joined by Keith Jamieson. After nearly 30 miles and a lovely lunch stop at Jingleby we headed back to Scarborough via Bickley. Keith lost control of his bike at the bottom of the hill and crashed heavily.

He broke his femur so an ambulance was called for. They stabilized him but he was then air lifted to James Cook hospital near Middlesborough.

I am in contact with his wife, Susan and have had a few chats with her to keep up to date with his progress.

He has had an operation today to pin the break. He is recovering from that now and tho rather groggy Susan hopes to get him home for his birthday on Friday.

I have a get well card at the shop and if anyone wants to sign it i will leave it at the shop until sat pm.

Keith sends his thank to all the Richardsons cc members who helped him out.

Keith asked for photos to be taken of the 'event' so i expect we may see some action shots on the site soon!

And yes, i was on a road ride!

The hill out of Dalby this time of year can be a bit slippy and thats the same corner Rex crashed on but was a bit luckier and managed to cycle away from that one.

Hope Keith recovers soon.  Will pop in and sign the card tomorrow.

Finally plucked up the emotional strength to post some news on my recovery.

Why is recovery so much more painful than the actual accident?

My recovery is going as planned and even after 5 weeks today, the physio has commented that I am well advanced considering  the seriousness of the break.
Exercises are going well, stairs - no problem. Stamina needs attention, but that will improve in time. After a couple of near misses I am able to get around the house using one crutch now Wink. Venturing outside I still use both crutches - you never know.

I have been permitted to take up pole dancing Twisted Evil Hell its hard lifting my right leg up…..but must be carefull not to slide down the crutches and bang my head just before I hit the floor. I wonder if I will be able to have a better handicap, with all that extra weight I am carrying Wink.

After 40 plus years in the saddle and experiencing a serious crash, that wearing the correct gear saved me from much serious injuries. My sport glasses save my right eyeball. A hole had been ground through the lens. My helmet saved my right eye socket from taking extensive cuts as I was sliding face down along the road. The helmet was destroyed during the impact.
Over the years I assessed each ride as to what gear I would put on, sometimes a helmet, sometimes not. That philosophy is one that I will no longer apply and ride with a helmet on every ride in future. I'm not preaching to anybody here, but caveat emptor.
Please be safe out there.

If you are out on your Sat/Sun ride and want a cup of tea or coffee, then my house is always open to you.

Heartfelt thanks go out to everybody. I can't begin to express my appreciation to the people that have called in to see me in hospital and at home. To the wonderful people who assisted and kept me calm throughout. The paramedics from Scarborough who were quickly on the scene, and to the crew of the Air ambulance who medivac'd me to James Cook Hospital, Middlesbrough. (Not much to remember there as I was knocked out with Ketamin). Everybody was wonderful. My emotions get the better of me sometimes….like now. God bless you all.

so pleased you are on the way to recovery. It shakes you to realize how life can change in just a matter of moments. i am so pleased but not surprised that you are healing quicker than expected.

I must admit i always wear my helmet but have been hit and miss as to whether i wear my glasses, on from now on.

i will try and join the Sunday crew for a ride, that's if they don't think i bring bad luck !

Take care
