I can't do either, I'm afraid. I'm in Surrey tomorrow and and on Sunday morning I'm taking part in the singlespeed UK championship at Dalby.

Good ride tonight. 14 riders for the evening road ride with Andy Brown…a mixture of experienced and new riders.
These club rides are very popular and last week the numbers topped 17 riders!

Nah. Roadies i hear are a bit wierd. I hear they point out pebbles and pot holes.
But on a lighter note……………..I'll be picking a road bike up this week and shall be out on the tarmac(that still dont sound right) enjoying cafes without the mud clagged onto me legs.

Smiler's idea of a road bike isn't the same as ours…. he'll be the one on the 140hp Ducati. Don't let the little bell on the handlebar fool you!

Went out tonights club run (25th) good turn out, think Matt said 18. Alot of new people since I was last out on one of these runs.
I think people need to think about putting lights on their bikes as I got home at 8.50 and it was pitch black out there, and remember Richardsons kit is black.
Also this club run is ment to be easy, and alot of people where getting dropped and no one waited until the gap was massive. It puts people off coming out if you dont wait, Jeff did a good job tonight and helped out at the back, hope to be out next wednesday.

Forgive me for being Devil's advocate (I'm not really spoiling for an argument, I've just had an annoying day at work ) but…
People DID wait. And if gaps between riders put people off a lot, there wouldn't be 18 out. I hear what you're saying, and it's valid, but let's keep it in perspective.
Also, if it was pitch black, the colour of kit is irrelevant. If it's dark, you need lights and reflectives. A yellow jersey won't matter diddly. Light colours can help in dim light but not in actual darkness. (Conversely, on a bright sunny day a black jersey can provide greater contrast. The worst colour is probably 'hedge green' or 'tarmac grey'. )

All of the new riders are regular weednessday night rders and i 've spoken to them and they are quite happy with the way the rides are run.
Gaps will always open up and people wait , nobody gets left and there is always an experinced rider at the back.
The nights are drawing in fast now and there was a lot of red lights going through the forge valley so people are carrying them.
I was at the back with my flashing rear light so there always a light at the back of the pack.
Any body coming out now will probably need front and rear lights or the rides will have to be cut short.

Well Dan you was not there last night so you can't say that people DID wait, because they didn't until the the gap was massive between front and back.
And the colour of the kit does matter because on the way back through forge valley there was two other people with us wearing dark kit and i could only really see my dad wearing yellow.

Leading any group is difficult and especially to keep a group together. In fact all leadership courses I have been on recognise that gaps develop and people ride at different speeds. There is no problem with this as long as no one gets lost and that people wait at certain spots.
We would love to have a huge set of leaders to take different levels of abilities but we dont have those volunteers.
And remember this is a Richardsons Club run and as guest riders lets not get into the “what colour kit clubs have” debate. I have heard it too many times lets just say its each individuals choice as to what riders wear.

The point which I was trying to get over is that if people are going to be out as it is getting dark they should be wearing some kind of light or reflective items, have rear/front lights as stated in the highway code and not hope that there is someone going to be there with a back light to sit at the back of 18+ riders. That is just unsafe.
Thats just what I thought, but i enjoyed the ride last night, maybe as the nights are drawing in it could start half an hour earlier.

This coming Weds 1st Sept will be the last Weds evening ride until Spring 2011. The usual format is a short ride and drink in the Rosette at the end of the ride.

Me and my dad got to the Rosette just before half past and waited for about 5-10 mins and a lad and his dad turned up and nobody else turned up, so they went home and me and my dad went out on a ride.

Yeah Im happy to put my mountain bike lights on and continue riding with a group on a wednesday night. Its a safer alternative to going out on my own and its a good way for me to keep in touch with the riders Ive met this summer. Bring it on
