I'm doing this too (I'm not on the entry list cos I'm a VIP ) so I'll look out for you. I'm also doing the 100k version, as I have to be back in York around lunchtime so I can get photos at the show.

Well here goes first time for everything. Hope the weather holds should be fun!

I've added some photos from today's ride (the CTC Ron Kitching Sportive) to the Gallery, under 'road bikes'. Richardsons had EIGHT riders in this sportive: Lorraine, Pete and Anne Blood, Paul, Lucy, new member Nigel, Maggy (unless she's not a member - not sure) and me.

It was a cloudy day at the start on York Racecourse and threatened rain, but it soon warmed up. Comment of the day goes to Lucy who asked: 'How do you know where we're going?' Answer: 'We're following those arrows. Like that one.'

We headed roughly north, through Sherriff Hutton and up Terrington Bank, through Hovingham, up Caulkleys Bank (the toughest climb of the ride, I reckon) over the A170, and to a snack stop at Fadmoor. From there we went through Hutton le Hole, back over the A170, then through Marton (with coffee and cakes from the WI), then Amotherby, and past Castle Howard. Not long after that we were back on the flat for the run into York.

We pretty much kept together throughout the ride, splitting only as we came into York due to traffic lights and roundabouts. Well done to Pete, Nigel and Maggy, all of whom did their longest ever ride on a bike (66.8 miles according to my Garmin), and especially Nigel, who hit a deep narrow pothole at speed but managed to keep it together.
