The Met Office said that the wind would drop, but it was still swirling around a bit at 10mph-plus, mostly from the southwest. But it wasn’t a bad night and the times reflected that.
Fourteen riders turned up to face timekeepers Andy and Fiona Browne, and we even had a spectator: Audax Richard. I tried to explain that while Tting looked about as enjoyable as banging your head against a wall, we nevertheless got quite a buzz from it.
I did see Nick TEF while I was putting the signs out, and assumed he was riding, but I think he was racing home for his tea!
There were some pretty close times tonight, with Malton’s Ralph Lilley pushing Paul Hickman out of second place by just two seconds. Dave Simpson beat a newly tri-bar equipped Rich Simms by the same 2 second margin. (Stu, who lost almost a minute to both, would like it recorded that he was racing without tri-bars.)
There wasn’t much between Pete McCauley and Steve Samples either (13 seconds), nor between Carl Martin and Mark Grange (16 seconds). With such close rivalry, it should make the subsequent races interesting. Matthew Enticknap had no rivals tonight, however, and was a clear first place with 22:31.
Many thanks to Andy and Fiona for timekeeping. And well done to everyone who rode and chipped away at their personal bests. (I think Dave Myers got a PB by nearly half a minute tonight.)
Here are the results.

Next event in this series is on Thursday 2nd June on the Snainton course. I’m still looking for one timekeeper and one marshall for that one. Please let me know if you can help.
