Me and Andy Browne flew the flag for Richardsons CC in Scarborough Paragon's 5-mile time trial out to Staxton roundabout on the A64 tonight. The rain finished before the event started, so while it was easy-does-it around the greasy tarmac on the roundabouts, the conditions were actually pretty good. Bit cool, but only a light wind, mostly in the south.
Young James Gullen averaged nearly 30mph for the whole course!
I was happy to beat Andy by 34 seconds, and probably won't mention it at all next time we meet. Although as that'll be on Saturday, where he'll probably beat me, that might be prudent anyhow.
Full results, courtesy of Paragon's Mick Storey:
1 James Gullen 10-08
2 Dan Joyce 11-43
3 Mike Scott 11-53
4 Lewis Scott 11-54
5 Barrie Cappleman 12-12
6 Andy Browne 12-17
7 Nick McLellan 12-34
8 Andy McLellan 12-53
9 Dave Priestman 13-00
10 Mark Hepples 13-09
11 Kim Scott 14-33

Good time Dan - that new selector will no doubt get a good write up now.

Cheers, Tommo. It's hard to quantify in seconds, the benefit of that Giro 'Bo' Selector, and it might well be marginal gains. But like most aero stuff: if it looks faster, it usually is.
I was trying new tyres too, and they're definitely faster. They're Schwalbe Ultremo TT tubs. I haven't done roll-down tests on them (it's difficult with tubs, because the conditions will change by the time you've changed the tyres!) but on the evidence so far I would put them roughly on a par with Vittoria Corsa Evo CX - same weight, same feel. I daresay there are faster tyres yet (e.g. track tubs with silk casings), but they'll be more fragile. What tyres you got on, out of interest?

I saw the the tyres as well but didn't get chance to ask about them.
I've run Vittoria Crono's for the last 2 years, 20 on the front 22 on the back.
Some say they wear out fast ???? but I get a year out of them. I put new tyres on for the 12hr last year and changed them for this years 12hr. They were bald in the middle but this happens after about 500m, after a year and about 2000m they weren't down to canvas but were a bit 'flat' across the middle (goes with out saying - more on the rear). I was still PB'in all distance's on them so thought why change them for the sake of it, and only did for the 12hr as it is a 'one hit - one chance race' and if a small piece of glass/quartz was in there it could work through and I'd get a flat. Those tyres have now done about 500-600m.
Last years tubs are now my emergency spares so I still have them if you want to look at the wear rate for a report etc. You can pump them up and see the 'flat spot' & I can tell the exact milage on them if you require.

Those Vittoria Cronos do look lovely and light. (And light, supple tyres with latex innertubes are always, more importantly, fast.) If I get a pair of those to test, I'll give you a shout. Could do before and after photos!
