Richardsons CC will be running two hillclimbs shortly. Both will be at Ganton. One will be on 17 August, starting at 7pm. The second will be on 14 September, starting at the earlier time of 6pm (so that it will take place in daylight!).

The format is the same as the time trials we’ve been doing this year, and it’s the same rules. The course is much, much shorter. But it’s uphill - and proper steep.

Dave Schubert wanted to put these on and is the man in charge of them. They’ve both been registered with CTT and the police. They’re on Wednesday evenings because those were the days that suited Dave.

If you like hills (Callum?), you’ll like these events. If you’ve never raced before but you’re a skinny whippet, you’ll do well.

I was really hoping we would get at least a few Mountain bikers, not just roadies. Should be good for “Mounties” (Is that right?) due to the constant change in steepness.

I am still after a volunteer or two to help out with this ride, any offers???

There's free fresh air and a long stand for any helpers.

I hope we are going to get plenty of riders for this event, if there's more interest we can stick a few on in late Autumn

On a different note, the C5 is up and running but under hard accel the batteries take a nose dive, had it up to 30mph but with ya Bum 6″ of the ground feels like your doing 130. I'll be sorting the battery problem first and then limiting it before I let anybody have a go. I also have a belt tension problem that only occurs when the KERS kicks in, but I dont think that will cause too much of a problem.

Is it a straight hill climb from bottom to top ?

Or are you still thinking about carrying on for ages after it tops out ?

Fixed gear for No1 answer  -  Gears for No2 answer you see. Wink

Wednesdays are Maltons TT days. After this its our chain gang. Sorry. Cannot be there, but have “fun”.

Damn good Engineering Draughtsman, air cooled VW lover and Karmann Ghia owner.

Have a good race on Wednesday. I will miss this one as I am in North Wales. I'll do the hillclimb in September, though. Hazel has the signs, watches and race numbers, Dave.

Thanks Deb, we have four marshals so far including yourself and Hazel, which should be enough but another would be very welcome to assist at the start.

This is a seven oclock start so please be there for 6:45 for sign on (Ganton village hall car park)

Can Marshalls be there for 6pm  please?

This is a 900m climb followed by about 1km flattish sprint, so gears advisable (Thanks Tommo)

Good weather made for a great turn out for the first of two hill climbs. If you didn’t turn out then you missed an exciting night of agony and speed.

First of all thanks to the Marshals for sorting the contenders out.

Due to the turn out only the podium places are here:

A hiccup in the timing means a set-off time of  -(place + 4 mins) not (place +5 mins) so I’ve added that in.

Actual time on clock         Hill climb        Finish

Paul                                11:18           14:13

Tom                               10:38           13:16

Phil                                13:05           15:43

Adjusted time                               Sprint (Finish - Hill)     Ratio (Hill climb time/sprint time)

Tom  (-6)                         4:38           2:38                    1.76

Phil    (-7)                        6:05           2:38                    2.31

Paul  (-5)                         6:18           2:55                    2.16

That puts Tom clearly in the lead for the Hill climb with a blistering 4:38, Joint first for the Sprint along with Phil the whippet who gave it all to grasp a ratio of 2.31

Paul takes second place for the Ratio with a good recovery time in the sprint.

Let’s have more of you mountain bikers for the September hill climb and sprint.   You know you want to!

See you there.

Thanks Dave & the marshalls for putting on this event, its something different and im sure it appeals to quite a few riders out there who are up for a challenge.  Im very suprised to have the same sprint time as Tom! (He must have been warming down then) Hope the next event goes well, sorry im going to miss it though as i'll be on holiday, good luck! Smile

I have found out how we can run club mtb races….inc off road climbs.  all we need is the land and permission.

So over to the mtb section to sort this and I can advise you how to register the event etc..  Wykeham would be a good area to run them but remember we cannot use any official footpaths or bridleways ie those on the map with a green right of way. Forestry access land such as the most of wykeham is ok..
