Another windy night tonight, with a northerly coming straight down Bartindale Hill. A tough start - I spent most of it standing up. Great to see some new faces tonight - new member Matt Matchouki, plus MTBers Jackie and Siobhan, competing on knobbly tyred mountain bikes. Hardcore!

Jeff Francis lost his chain on the road by the pig farm, and it got jammed between his chainstay brake and his chainstay. Bad luck. Paul Hickman was also a DNF. I owe Paulo an apology. When I went back to cheer on Jackie and Siobhan, Jackie said (mid race) 'one of the TEF guys is walking down the hill'. I said I'd go pick him up. But when I got back to the village hall, Jeff was just getting out of a car with his chain jammed bike. 'Oh,' I though, 'Jackie must've meant Jeff.' She didn't - sorry, Paulo!

Hazel will update us on what the standings are in the Summer Series. For tonight's race, Mark Grange was fastest club rider up Bartindale, and the winner on handicap was me.

I haven't updated my spreadsheet that's tracking actual and best improver times. But I'm pretty sure that Matthew Enticknap can't be beaten as fastest overall, with Paul Hickman almost certainly second. Calumn Norris is definitely fastest junior.

Tonight's times… Great first rides by Matt Machouki, Jackie and Siobhan (41:39 is an average speed of a little under 15mph). Calumn did well in the wind, which disproportionately affects smaller, lighter riders (who have less absolute power and also a larger surface area relative to mass than bigger riders). Kevern is going well too, scant seconds behind Tony Graves.

I've put all the numbers into my spreadsheet. Only Callum and me gained time last night for the best improver competition. Callum gained 0.21mph - after adjusting for the slower Burton Fleming course - and lies fourth in that competition. I'm not in the running for that, but went 0.09mph faster compared to my last ride. Everyone else was a bit slower, due to the wind.

With one ride to go, Tim Watts still leads as best improver, narrowly ahead of Dave Myers, Dave Simpson, and then Callum.

Fastest overall (based on best ride on each course) goes: Matthew Enticknap, Paul Hickman, me. (Carl and Mark would be faster but have ridden on only two of the three courses. Mark can't qualify but Carl would likely come third if he rode the next event.)
