Where’s everybody gone? Possibly the Mediterranean? It is holiday time. Only 8 riders tonight. What was supposed to be a 25-mile TT ended up being a 10 because of the roadworks in Snainton. We can’t race through traffic lights. So it was the 10-mile Brompton course instead. A strong westerly made it very fast out – I wonder if the cop with the speed gun got anyone?! – but hard work coming back. So the times were surprisingly good, scarcely down on what I’d expect on a still day.
There was some close racing in the main part of the field. Just 15 seconds separated 3rd and 7th. Every second counts! Mel Blackford was a clear winner, however, while Chris Brown wasn’t challenged for 2nd.
Many thanks to Seamer Chris for giving up his Thursday night mountain bike ride to help run this event.
Next TT is a 15-mile one at Snainton around (and around and around!) the Yedingham triangle, at the earlier time of 7pm (sign on: 6.45pm) next Thursday. This is an RCC handicap event, although Paragon are hosting this. The event after *that* (17th August) is the final handicap event, and we’re running it. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! I need at least FOUR people to run this.
Incidentally, don’t forget that Paragon’s Open 10-mile TT at Burton Fleming is coming up soon on Saturday 26th August. You can’t just roll up and ride this: you have to enter in advance. You can do that online here: https://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/race-details/15805 . (You’ll need to set up an account on the Cycling Time Trials website, but that’s easy.) Note that this will be a counting hilly event for RCC competitions.
