Come Ride With Us

Richardsons CC is a club for mountain bikers and road cyclists in the Scarborough area. We’re the biggest and fastest growing bike club on the Yorkshire coast. There’s 169 of us so far – men, women, middle-aged, young, race fit, and beer-fuelled. We’ve got one main thing in common: we like to ride bikes. Some of us mostly ride on singletrack, some of us mostly ride on tarmac. Plenty of us do both. You’re welcome to join us, doing the cycling you already like or trying out cycling you might like. We’re lucky to have some of the best riding in Britain on our doorstep. And we want to share it.
You’re welcome to join a few recreational rides with us to see if  you like it. After that, we expect you to join (link to joining page).

Breeze Rides

New to cycling?

As it’s now officially springtime, we are about to start our very popular Thursday evening rides, with a slight addition, this year we are adding a Short- Ride-Series for beginners or those that have not ridden in a long time.

I am sure by now many of you will have heard of Breeze Scarborough. If you haven’t, it’s a local ladies only cycling group. The rides are FREE, fun and very social. Rides go at a speed that suits everyone, and they often start or finish at a café or pub so everyone can have a drink and a chat.

You may think you’re not fit enough to join a cycling group and don’t have all the cycling gear, don’t worry! All you need is a bike and helmet if you have one, a bike lock and a little cash for the refreshment break, don’t worry about what to wear just make sure you’re going to be comfortable, warm and dry.

The Short Ride Series starts with a very short and easy paced 6 mile ride. Over 4 weeks, we build on the distance and gradient of the ride, at the end of the series you can repeat the 4 week block or think about progressing to the next stage.

All you need for either stand of ride is a bike and helmet if you have one, a bike lock and a little cash for the refreshment break, don’t worry about what to wear just make sure you’re going to be comfortable, warm and dry.

Evening rides start from Thursday 16 April leaving at 6.30 pm opposite the Nags Head. 35 High Street, Scalby Scarborough YO13 0PT

ROAD RIDES

road ride to Rosedale
Richardsons CC organise road rides for club members throughout the year. Spontaneous rides organised by individual club members are posted on the website, Facebook, and WhatsApp. As well as this, we have regular club rides on Sunday mornings and Tuesday evenings.
On Sunday mornings, we set off from The Rosette car park in Scalby at 8.30am. There’s usually two groups, one social (average moving speed around 15mph or less) and one fast (average moving speed around 17mph). Distances might be 30-50 miles for the socials, 40-60 for the fast group. Both rides are back for lunch. Distances and speeds will vary with terrain, weather, and time of year. Both rides usually have a coffee stop. All riders are expected to bring: their own water and on-the-bike snacks; a spare innertube to fit their own bike.
On Tuesday evenings during British Summertime (and sometimes a bit beyond), we organise evening rides, setting off from the Nag’s Head in Scalby at 6.30pm. Again, there’s usually two rides: one social, one faster. Distances are shorter for evening rides, typically under 40 miles.
Road rides are coordinated largely via WhatsApp. You need to join the ‘Club event info only’ group, plus the ‘Winter training group’ for the fast group rides.

OFF ROAD RIDES

Richardsons CC organise mountain bike rides for club members throughout the year. Spontaneous rides organised by individual club members are posted on the website, Facebook, and WhatsApp. As well as this, we have regular mountain bike rides on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The usual start time (ready to ride, not arrival) is 6.15pm, but start locations vary. Sometimes there’s only a social ride, sometimes there’s a fast ride too, but they may not start from the same location. Mountain bike rides are coordinated largely via WhatsApp. You need to join the ‘Club event info only’ group and the ‘Richardsons CC Social MTB’ groups.
All riders are expected to bring: their own water and on-the-bike snacks; a spare innertube to fit their own bike; and for much of the year, lights.
